South Loop Elementary School – New Construction
The project involved building a new 130,000-square-foot, four-story elementary school to accomodate 1200 students as well as site upgrades at 1601 S. Dearborn Street. The school’s construction included 40 standard classrooms, two computer labs, three science labs, two art labs, one music room with a movable partition, warming kitchen and dining facilities, a gymnatorium, a library, a rooftop play area, an administrative center, and a student services suite. The school features a structural steel frame, cast-in-place lateral bracing, pile foundations, and an exterior cavity wall envelope made of cold-formed framing and face brick veneer were all included in the building’s construction. The site modifications included a new parking lot, upgrades to stormwater management, a playground, a waste/transformer enclosure, landscape planters, site furnishings, and improvements to the right-of-way.
