JUNIOR ESTIMATOR | 1 to 3 Years Experience

DAILY DUTIES, included but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of complete cost estimates (labor and material) for electrical commercial and industrial projects.
  • Fluent in PlanSwift (or similar) and AccuBid for take offs and cost estimation.
  • Familiarity with standard bid solicitation process for public work.
  • Close coordination with Procurement and Project Management for project hand off when awarded.
  • Preparation of Bills of Material and other information for use by Purchasing.
  • Schedule and attend field walk-throughs with general contractors and additional construction/ engineering personnel to understand and determine constructability requirements.
  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency as well as data entry
  • Additional duties as determined by Chief Estimator
  • This position will be based in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and will work with projects within the State and potentially neighboring States. Minimal travel may be required.
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This positon reports to the Chief Estimator in a department of 5.
  • 2-3 years of experience estimating new construction, maintenance and retrofit projects within electrical commercial and industrial projects is required.
  • Candidate must be knowledgeable of the N.E.C and local codes
  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blue prints, proposals and other documents as they relate to the electrical work.
  • Knowledgeable with a wide variety of electrical materials and methods of installation.
  • Computer literate and proficient with software such as Microsoft Office applications (ie., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc), Dropbox, FTP sites, etc.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction or related field desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Team player and able to work with various partners, including some high profile, from start to finish
  • Self-driven and have the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time.
  • Able to wear various hats in the process and stay focused with a full bid calendar.
  • Hours of Operation are Monday – Friday, 7am to 5pm.

PROJECT ENGINEER | 3 to 5 Years Experience

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Broadway Electric, Inc. is looking for an electrical project engineer that will be responsible for working on the electrical portion of a new building at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. The ideal candidate must be familiar with Chicago area electrical construction projects that involve coordination with multiple trades. You will help schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from project award to completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES | HIGH LEVEL

  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring the assigned electrical tasks (front end pre-construction activities, as well as contract execution items such as submittals, RFIs, change orders, etc.)
  • Monitoring compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Interacting daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and representing them in the field

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned tasks (will work on material/subcontractor buyouts/purchasing, submittals, drafting RFIs, tracking orders, billings, invoices, monitor/control/manage issues)
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budgeting, schedule, planning) and report regularly on project status
  • Performed assigned responsibilities and communicate with project team
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Review project deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven working experience as a project engineer (prefer Chicago market)
  • Excellent knowledge of design/install of electrical systems
  • Ability to work software such as AutoCAD, as well as Contract Manager, Primavera, and Accubid
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  • Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
  • Project management and supervision skills
  • Decision making ability and leadership skills
  • Time management and organization skills
  • Previous Airport experience is desired
  • BS degree in Construction or similar is preferred

PROJECT MANAGER | 5 to 7 Years Experience

DAILY DUTIES, included but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of project construction schedules, in Microsoft Project and/or Primaveram, and communicate effectively with the Project Team.
  • Submission of RFI’s to clients and manage day to day activities of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for qualifying sub-contractor estimates and bids, performing project buyouts, and managing subcontractors' progress against plan.
  • Coordinating meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables and addressing outstanding ‘open items’ as requested by clients.
  • Preparation of look-ahead documents and weekly, monthly progress reports and billing information.
  • Reviewing and monitoring job costs versus budgets.
  • Work with closely with cost estimator of project/s for thorough project handoff.
  • Foundation in PlanSwift (or similar) and AccuBid for take offs; solid understanding of current union production rates for change order issuance/ management is strongly preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This position reports to Operation Manager.
  • Candidate must possess experience in understanding blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services.
  • Familiar with public client procurement process and project management lifecycle.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in the electrical industry and/or possessing project management experience within commercial and industrial electrical construction projects is required.
  • Firm understanding of other MEP trades and GC responsibilities in the project, a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required throughout IL and surrounding areas.  National travel for this position will be minimal but may be required.
  • Experience working with local and out of state subcontractors, a plus.
  • Ability to work with various partners, including some high profile, from start to finish.
  • Must be self-driven and have the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time.
