Project Name:
TRACON Fire Alarm Upgrades - FAA
Elgin, IL
Start/Scheduled Date of Completion Date:
September 2015 - August 2016
Project Scope:

7The Chicago C90 Terminal Radar Control (TRACON) Facility is actually three buildings—an administrative center, an environmental building, and an operations area—connected by a common lobby area. Work on this project involved removing the existing fire alarm system and replacing it with a Class A fire system.

Additionally, all fire-rated doors needed to be inspected and adjusted to ensure proper closing and latching. Firestopping of all existing and new penetrations was completed, and the sprinkler system was flushed and upgraded to provide full coverage. The pre-action system was converted to a wet system, as well.

The facility was only accessible for work from midnight until 5:30 a.m., and only after FAA personnel had left the area. Because of the highly sensitive nature of the work done at this facility, safety and security requirements were very stringent. FAA personnel were trained on the new system at the conclusion of the project.
