Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain- BEI Renovation Project 1995
This 194,000 square foot, three-story masonry building was constructed in 1939. Upgrading the electrical distribution system included installing switch gear, an emergency generator, and an automatic transfer switch. Broadway also replaced light fixtures and the fire alarm/security system. This project also included the abatement of asbestos containing materials (ACM).
Exterior renovations included tuckpointing, window replacements, and various minor repairs. The plumbing scope included upgrading the plumbing system's domestic hot water heating system, and it replaced toilets, showers, waste and water piping, and exhaust and ventilation piping. Corridor ceilings were replaced, and electrical outlets and other areas disturbed during electrical demolition were patched to match the existing finishes.
Work was coordinated with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA) because of the historically-significant building facade.
