Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain- BEI Renovation Project 1995
A wide variety of repairs and component replacements within this facility's electrical and mechanical systems were performed.
Electrical work included the refurbishment of the existing control panels, VFDs, and termination cabinets. A new gas detection panel, complete with visual alarms and horns, was installed to detect hydrogen sulfide and methane.
Also, the valve chamber level required new transmitters and indicators. New communications equipment included telephones in the distribution chamber, a new CCTV monitoring system in the mainstream pumping station, and replacement cameras.
Other installations included a new inverter, chamber emergency lights, control building lights, and new fire alarm devices and cabling. Concrete rehabilitation on the monolith required sawcutting and removal of materials around the existing cracks. These cracks were then pressure-grouted with epoxy. Next, additional spalled areas requiring repair were mapped by a structural engineer. Then, once those areas were removed, the surfaces were prepared for new cast-in-place replacement concrete.
The scope also included the construction of a new electrical room within the Control Building, as well as valve chamber drainage improvements, extensive recoating work, and other miscellaneous tasks.
