Capital Development Board (CDB)
John Madden Mental Health Center Fire Alarm System
Start/Scheduled Date of Completion Date:
July 2013 - May 2014
As part of a larger program of renovations for life safety compliance, the fire alarm system equipment within the administration building and each of the facility's 12 pavilions was replaced, reusing limited equipment in isolated areas in which it had recently been updated. The facility remained operational during construction.
Most of the existing devices were concealed within ceiling soffits. All of the new work was similarly installed. Major equipment included the following:
- Addressable analog intelligent fire alarm control panels with battery backup, including the master panel for the administration building
- Liquid crystal display annunciators with flush back box for the administration and pavilion buildings
- Addressable manual pull stations
- Addressable analog intelligent photoelectric smoke detectors, heat detectors, and photoelectric duct smoke detectors
The system also includes remote test stations, a relay module to recall the elevator, and monitor modules for interfacing with existing water flow and valve supervisory switches. The system includes both horns and strobes in order to comply with ADA. The entire system complies with NFPA 101 and NFPA 72. The scope of work included programming the system.
