Project Name:
Chicago Theatre Fire Alarm Upgrade - Historic Renovation
Chicago, IL
Start/Scheduled Date of Completion Date:
July 2012 - March 2013
Project Scope:

cac270cd471fbe18ca1b93272f64153dTo install the new fire alarm system for this historic 600-seat auditorium, several accommodations needed to be made. Not only could the venue's performance schedule not be disrupted, but the architecturally significant features had to be preserved. Installation of the raceways and the cutting and coring to flush-mount all new devices, was completed without disturbing the building's many murals and ornate gilded mouldings.

The Edwards Systems technology system included a new fire alarm control panel in the first-floor State Street entrance, and a two-hour circuit integrity (CI) cable for the audio riser was run to the newly-installed data gathering panels (DGP) in the basement. Eight booster supplies were mounted in basement electrical room, as well. Risers from the DGP (with two speaker circuits and four speaker circuits per floor) were run, and network connections were established between the FACP, DGP and remote annunciator. The new fire alarm annunciator was installed at the security desk located at the South alley entrance. AC power was provided to the FACP, DGP and booster supplies from existing panel in the basement dressing room.

4305a03bc4c0e7655d961874cd6e1c62Connections included #16-2C addressable loops to new initiating devices, #16 twisted pair for all new speaker circuits, and auxiliary power to the remote annunciator and door holders. All final connections and terminations were made at the control panels, annunciators, along with all associated equipment and peripheral devices.
